It is rare to find a jewelry designer as playful and creatively limitless as Alex Sepkus. Alex Sepkus’ designs are like micro-organisms under magnification, tiled mosaics, stained glass, or ancient runes, expressed in yellow gold, gemstones and diamonds. Some find flashes of fine artist masters in his designs, such as Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dalí, Gaudi, and Kandinsky. Alex Sepkus is just as inspired by nature as by cultural history’s motifs and textures. His work could easily fit into a museum exhibition of artifacts from the Byzantine or medieval eras, yet equally astounds contemporary tastes. Alex Sepkus’ jewelry is often said to defy time and trends. This designer is also ruthlessly attentive to fine jewelry standards, surpassing requirements for the sake of passion for excellence. The result is un-categorizable, and therefore unbridled. 

Alex Sepkus studied industrial design in Lithuania but found the discipline too restrictive. He began experimenting with carving and engraving techniques in stone, ivory, and enamel because gold was unavailable under the Soviet Union. In 1988, he made the long journey to the U.S. and settled in the Hudson River valley area just North of New York City, where he honed his goldsmithing skills in Manhattan’s bustling midtown diamond district. By 1991, Alex Sepkus amassed the support to launch his jewelry line. He maintained a hands-on, intricate, and focused approach to adding texture and detail to his jewelry, often using a microscope and improvised tools to achieve this.

The artist tragically passed away in 2021 due to lymphoma, leaving great sadness in the industry. His vision was so singular and completely his own. Alex Sepkus was such a visionary that he would bring his jewelry designs to life simply from his mind, through his hands directly into wax or metal, without the use of sketches. Fortunately for Alex Sepkus fans, the late designer left behind a trove of unreleased jewelry models which his workshop intends on producing.
