Polly Wales is the creative and founding director behind her brand of fine handcrafted jewellery that does not seek to sell us false dreams of glossy, magazine ready perfection. Rather it offers an honest, imperfect beauty that is natural and attainable- a beauty that will continue to change and evolve over a lifetime and beyond. It is for women who want their engagement and wedding rings to feel more like them, more like their lives; warmer and a little closer to how they see themselves and how they see love.

“We make jewellery that never has a perfect moment”, Polly says. “The moment I’m talking about of shiny newness that somehow heralds the beginning of the end, resulting in jewellery that makes impossible demands to be kept pristine polished and safe guarded. The process behind the backbone of our work is to cast an array of gemstones inside precious metal, to create pieces that always have unique and slightly unpredictable outcomes with a rough luxe, ‘from the earth’ aesthetic-like geodes split open as stones break through at random points to penetrate the surface of the gold.”

Polly studied jewellery at the Royal College of Art- prior to this she had trained in Sculpture. “I found that jewellery, rather than sculpture allowed me to make pieces that spoke to more people, more directly. I loved making for making’s sake and coming to decisions from an aesthetic view point rather than a totally intellectualized one.”

The collections she has gone onto develop are drawn from an eclectic mix of references from Byzantine and Indian jewellery through to trends in high fashion but she maintains, “It is the women who wear my jewellery who play a major role in how the ranges have evolved. Seeing how women wear it and live in it is really inspirational to me.”

In 2010 a drive to combine her artistic and commercial sensibilities without compromise came to fruition in a significant move into the fine jewellery arena. The response to this has been overwhelming, being met with critical acclaim from the likes of the NY Observer and LA Times and allowing the brand to flourish. “I feel that I have been very lucky to build a successful business whilst also remaining true to what I love and what I want to make.”

Polly works alongside her in-house, UK based team to hand make bespoke luxury that boasts socially responsible, ethical and sustainable credentials. “I try to be the person that is at the front of what we do and I really only want to build good relationships, this includes sourcing our materials from trusted suppliers through to working on special commissions with clients. That people come to us for their jewellery is truly exciting and really special to me.”
