Georg Jensen

Georg Jensen

Founded in 1904, Georg Jensen's designs possess a fabulous and everlasting Scandinavian aesthetic. Sleek yet inviting, Georg Jensen bowls, candlesticks, vases, pitchers, glasses, and silverware make entertaining memorable for guests and hosts alike. Georg Jensen lived from 1866 to 1935, leaving a legacy for uncommon and striking home decor. Since frequent collaboration with other artists was one of Georg’s greatest enjoyments, it stands to reason that new Georg Jensen designs are created by guest artists whose aesthetic complements the Copenhagen-based workshop's wares. The Bloom Botanica vase is one of the most popular objects from the Georg Jensen collection at Lux Bond & Green, probably because it is just as eye-catching as an empty centerpiece with flowers displayed. It is made of stainless steel, yet its prototype was created in clay, giving its glossy, metallic surface an aura of softness. Georg Jensen's designs have always and continue to break the molds of traditionality.

Where did Georg Jensen come up with such eclectic taste? The Danish-born Georg exhibited a talent for sculpture from a young age. He eventually apprenticed for a goldsmith, attended art school, and traveled Europe. His eyes were opened to the Art Nouveau movement, and he decided that he would make beautiful, functional objects to enjoy in the home. Setting up shop in Copenhagen, Georg worked in a highly collaborative setting, attaining inspiration and camaraderie from fellow silversmiths. Towards the end of Georg’s career, the Art Deco movement took hold, and Georg fully embraced fluidity, reflective surfaces, and simplicity in his later work.

Georg Jensen intended that his designs for the home would elevate the owner's lifestyle and make every day a little more luxurious. From elegantly shaped carafes, pitchers, wine coolers, and cocktail shakers to playful yet dramatic candle holders and snack bowls to functional and beautiful glassware, there is magic in how Georg Jensen turns stainless steel and glass into silk.
