John Hardy
John Hardy's Sustainable Advertising program calculates the company's carbon emissions
and plants a corresponding number of bamboo seedlings. As of March 2008, some
25 acres have been planted with various species of bamboo, equal to about twenty
football fields. Local families receive bamboo seedlings and training in the sustainable
cultivation of bamboo, providing them with an economic alternative to leaving
their island in search of work. Moreover, every farmer who is willing to plant
400 seedlings on his own land is given a cistern for catching and storing rainwater.

I know we can do better. We are implementing energy efficiency programs, and evaluating
ways to become a carbon neutral or even carbon negative company through all areas
of our operations.
